Jatinder Singh Haans
After earning his M.A. and B.Ed., Jatinder Singh Haans pursued a teaching career. He developed an interest in writing after reading master story writer Prem Parkash’s book ‘Prem Kahaniyaan’ and the Punjabi classic folk tale ‘Heer’ by Waris Shah. Haans is a skilled story teller among the new generation of Punjabi writers. He has published two books of short stories - Pavey Naal Baniyaan Kaal (2005) and Ishvar Da Janam (2009) and one novel Bas Ajey Ena Hi (2015). A few of the short stories have been turned into short films and of these ‘Takhi’ and ‘Lutro’ deserve special mention. ‘Pavey Naal Baniyaan Kaal’ has been translated into Hindi and some other stories have been translated into English and Indian languages. Of the many literary honors conferred on Haans the most notable are Principal Sujan Singh Award, Sant Singh Sekhon Award, and Swarn Kaur Memorial Award (Nawan Zamana Newspaper).
According to Haans, most of his stories are written when he is suffering from sadness. He enjoys the happiness he receives by writing and living through the stories of his characters.
