Vancouver, BC (January 25, 2022) – Submissions are now open for the 9th annual Dhahan Prize, the world’s signature award in Punjabi literature.
Novels and short story collections published in 2021 in Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi scripts are eligible for the 2022 Dhahan Prize.
Publishers, third parties and authors may submit the eligible works of fiction in accordance with the Dhahan Prize eligibility and submissions requirements at https://dhahanprize.com/submissions/
The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2022.
Each year the Dhahan Prize awards $ 25,000 Canadian to a winning book and $ 10,000 Canadian each to two finalist books.
The Dhahan Prize is the richest literary award celebrating the depth and breadth of the Punjabi language and literature. The Prize aims to inspire the creation of Punjabi literature across borders, bridging Punjabi communities around the world, and promoting Punjabi literature on a global scale. The award garners critical acclaim and significant exposure to writers around the world.
Based in Vancouver, Canada, the Dhahan Prize is founded by Barj (Barjinder Singh) and Rita Dhahan, with support from family, friends, and the University of British Columbia (UBC).

- Winner, Jogi, Sap, Trah (‘Snake Charmer’s Fright’), short stories by Nain Sukh, Lahore, Pakistan, and published by Kitab Trinjan
- Finalist, Mitti Bol Peye (‘The Earth Speaks’), novel by Balbir Madhopuri, New Delhi, India, and published by Navyug Publishers
- Finalist, Apne Apne Marseia (‘Journeys’), short stories by Sarghi Jammu, Amritsar, India and published by Chetna Prakashan
