We are very excited to share that the anthology of winning stories from the 2017 Dhahan Prize Youth Awards has been published. Congratulations to the winning authors from Burnaby South Secondary, Dashmesh Punjabi School (2 students), L.A. Matheson Secondary (2 students), Panorama Ridge Secondary, Princess Margaret Secondary, and Queen Elizabeth Secondary.
All eight stories have been published not only in the Gurmukhi and English versions as the students submitted them, but also in Shahmukhi.
The concept of the book cover originates from a craft in Pakistan. These small handmade toys stylistically date back to one of the most ancient bronze age civilizations in the world – the Indus Valley Civilization. Even today in the rural villages of West Punjab women craft these colorful horses and toys and sell them in charmingly intricate handmade baskets which they carry on their heads, traveling from one village to another.
