Jammu’s literary talent is inherited from her late father Dalbir Chetan, a foremost writer of contemporary Punjabi literature. Holding a PhD. in Punjabi folklore and fiction, she is an Assistant Professor in Punjabi, Sri Guru Angad Dev College, Khadur Sahib, Tarn-Taran.
Starting with poetry Sarghi has established her herself as a respected literary critic and editor. Among her books are Sam Drishti (2002), Khilrey Haraf (2003), Chetan Katha (2005), Vida Hon Toh Pehla (2009) and Punjabi Kahani Vich Lokdhara Da Unsarn Te Rapuntar (2018).
Her short stories ‘Rababi and Raad’ are outstanding examples of her creative talent. Both have been translated into Hindi and English. A short movie has been produced by PTC Punjab on the ‘Holiday Wife’ story from her 2020 published short story collection ‘Apne Apne Marseia’.
She is the recipient of ‘Principal Sujan Singh Utshah Vardak’ and the ‘Gurbax Singh Preetlarhi’ awards. “Callousness and social injustice affect me deeply compelling me to write. It is a passion for my whole life,” says Sarghi.
