The Dhahan Prize for Punjabi Literature celebrates the rich culture and transnational heritage of Punjabi literature and language. The prize aims to promote the growth of Punjabi language globally, as well as encourage new, emerging, and established writers working in the two Punjabi scripts, Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi.

  • 2019 Youth Award Submissions Now Open

    The Dhahan Prize 2019 Youth Award for Creative Writing submissions are now open. In partnership with L.A. Matheson Secondary, Surrey School District and Coast Capital Savings, the Dhahan Prize is excited to launch another year for the Youth Award, encouraging Grade 11 and 12 students in BC who are enrolled in Punjabi classes to pursue the literary arts by submitting short stories written in both Punjabi and English.     Happy International Mother Language Day! Proposed initially by UNESCO, International Mother Language Day is celebrated every year on February 21st to promote multilingualism, along with linguistic and cultural diversity. To mark this momentous day, we share the story of Parabjot Singh. She is a Canadian-born teacher, who is currently teaching Punjabi classes at LA Matheson Secondary School in Surrey, British Columbia. Her story follows below in Gurmukhi.
